After many years in the planning stages Maxine finally got her book, "Looking Back To See: A County Music Memoir", published by the Arkansas Press.  I have read the book and can tell you it is very interesting indeed!  I encourage all of Maxine and the Browns fans to read it.
 

Maxine Brown

Ella Maxine Brown b. 27 April 1932, Samti, LA, began her musical career with her big brother Jim Ed Brown in rural Arkansas as The Browns. In 1952 they began to appear on the Barnyard Frolics show over KLRA in Little Rock. When they made a guest appearance on the Earnest Tubb Record Shop show on Nashville's WSM they sang "Looking Back To See", a little novelty tune that brought them national attention. In 1954 they signed with Fabor Records and cut "Looking Back To See" which made the Top 10. Later that year they joined the Louisiana Hayride, adding their sister Bonnie to the act in 1955. IN 1956 they signed with RCA records and scored 2 Top 5 hits, "I Take The Chance" & "I Heard The Bluebirds Sing" Over the next decade they would score several other top country hits, many of them crossing over to the pop charts as well. The best known of these was "The Three Bells". In 1963 they became members of The Grand Ole Opry. In 1967 The Browns broke up and Jim Ed struck out on his own. Maxine & Bonnie moved back to Arkansas to spend more time with their families. In 1968 Maxine signed with Chart Records and released one LP, "Sugar Cane County", and several singles.
